LMIT 2022 Student Research Program Overview

LMIT has been conducting research studies since 2016 to develop new insights into the development of young inventors’ capacity to invent and educators’ needs and supports for teaching invention education. In summer 2022 we are launching a new effort to engage MIT students in our research projects via the Lemelson-MIT 2022 Student Research Program.

LMIT is looking to select up to six (6) MIT undergraduate or graduate students who will assist with an ethnographic research study of an online summer program for adults. Student researchers will receive guidance and support, including opportunities for learning the basics of ethnographic research while engaging in participant observation and interviews with adults attending LMIT’s summer invention education workshop. Students will also have opportunities to hear from experts in the field who have a background in product ethnography, some of whom have made a career of it.

Accepted students will be paid $20 per hour and will be expected to work up to 40 hours per week across a six-week period from July 5 – August 12, 2022. Students can participate online (remotely) and must be available between 10:00am – 6:00pm ET throughout the six weeks.
