MISTI offers seed funds to enable MIT faculty and researchers to launch early-stage international projects and collaboration with colleagues abroad. Applicants are encouraged to involve MIT undergraduate and graduate students in their projects.

MISTI Global Seed Funds includes a general fund for projects in any country and additional country funds for projects in:

  • Argentina
  • Belgium
  • Brazil
  • Chile
  • China
  • France
  • Germany
  • Israel
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • Korea
  • Mexico
  • Peru
  • Spain
  • Turkey
  • United Kingdom

Funding may be used to cover travel, meeting, and workshop costs to facilitate international projects and collaboration. In 2015, MISTI received 244 requests for funding, and 90 projects were awarded a total of over $2 million. Over $1.6 million is available in the current grant cycle.
